Retention is a phase after your Orthodontic treatment to maintain the teeth in their orthodontically corrected positions. Retainers resist the tendency of teeth to return to their pre-treatment positions. This is very important as in the first month after having your braces removed, the risk of relapse is at its highest.
Retainers should be taken out during eating, contact sport and when you brush and floss your teeth. To clean your retainers, wash with warm soap water.
You do not want to clean your retainers with anything abrasive (eg. toothpaste) as this can damage them.
If you are not using your retainer it should be placed in your retainer box so they do not get lost.
